Colorado Health Insurance Eligibility for a plan on our state exchange, Connect for Health Colorado, depends on several factors.

The Johnson family, who had recently experienced a change in employment, was concerned about losing their health insurance coverage. They were unsure of their eligibility for new plans and needed guidance on how to find the right one for their family.
Our agency stepped in to assess their situation, explaining how their change in employment status made them eligible for a Special Enrollment Period in Colorado. We reviewed their options with the husband and wife, including potential subsidies they might qualify for.

We assisted the Johnsons with their application process, ensuring they had continuous coverage without any gaps. They were grateful for a seamless and stress-free transition.
The Colorado Health Insurance Eligibility criteria is as follows:
Residency:
You must live in the state where you are applying for coverage through the state exchange.
Citizenship and Immigration Status:
You must be a U.S. citizen, U.S. national, or lawfully present in the United States. This includes legal immigrants such as those with green cards, work visas, and refugee status.
Not Incarcerated:
You cannot be currently incarcerated. However, individuals who are incarcerated pending disposition of charges are eligible.
Enrollment Period:
You must enroll during the Open Enrollment Period, which typically runs from November 1st to January 15th. Outside this period, you can enroll only if you qualify for a Special Enrollment Period (SEP).
Special Enrollment Period (SEP):
You may qualify for an SEP if you experience certain life events such as:
- Losing other health coverage (e.g., job loss, aging off a parent’s plan)
- Changes in household (e.g., marriage, divorce, birth of a child)
- Changes in residence (e.g., moving to a different state or zip code)
- Other qualifying events (e.g., gaining citizenship, leaving incarceration)

Income:
You can provide income to determine your Colorado Health Insurance Eligibility for premium tax credits and cost-sharing reductions.
Employer-Sponsored Coverage:
If you have access to affordable health insurance through your employer that meets minimum value standards, you may not qualify for premium tax credits on the state exchange. However, you can still purchase a plan without subsidies.
